A MESSAGE FROM COACH GREG AND MICHELLE GARD
Dear Sponsors and Supporters,
It’s hard to believe we’re already thinking about our second annual Garding Against Cancer (GAC) signature event. Thanks to the support of so many friends of our mission, GAC has taken on an exciting life of its own. Together we are making a difference in the lives of researchers, patients, and families across the state of Wisconsin.
The adverse impacts of cancer are well known to all, and we have been humbled by the families who have reached out to us during the difficult times in their lives — battling and, unfortunately, sometimes losing to this disease. At the same time, we have celebrated with those who share their stories of successfully kicking cancer aside and living their lives to the fullest. As GAC expands statewide, we have been blessed by the amazing people who don’t hesitate to fight with us. Each and every person we meet inspires us to do better … and we must all do better!
Since the December 2016 launch of Garding Against Cancer, we have successfully raised
almost $1.3 million. We are also thrilled to tell you that the total will continue to grow because we have several 2017 GAC events yet to go — and that those funds are already being put to work to combat cancer throughout Wisconsin.
In fact, we’re proud to report that at the UW Carbone Cancer Center, GAC donations
are helping in numerous ways. From developing more effective therapies for brain tumors and advancing precision medicine for breast-cancer patients, to enhancing detections of metastatic cancers and increasing vaccination rates to prevent HPV-related cancers in youth. Plus, the center is better able to understand how pancreatic cancer cells grow and to continue innovative studies in pediatric cancer and immunotherapy to improve cure rates, thanks in part to GAC support.
Along with this amazing research happening in Madison, we’ve also been able to offer support for a variety of patient-focused initiatives in and around the communities of Menomonie and Wisconsin Dells, where we hosted events in 2017.
We look forward to sharing more details about these exciting advances, and about the new ways in which GAC is making a difference for research and patient care — both locally and across the state — at our signature event in May.
Speaking of which, our second annual Garding Against Cancer signature event will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the Kohl Center. Because last year’s country theme was such a hit, we’re bringing it back — with a fun twist — in 2018! Get ready to dust off your finest western wear and start practicing the Texas two-step because you won’t want to miss this signature event - complete with delicious dining, one-of-a-kind silent and live auctions, lively entertainment, and more.
